Give & Gather 2025 - Baubles, Bourbon & Blessings

Greystone Legacy Clubhouse, 330 Legacy Way, Birmingham, AL   Tuesday, September 23, 2025
Picture
The patio of the Greystone Legacy Clubhouse provided a spectacular (though warm!) setting for the Fall fundraiser - Baubles, Bourbon & Blessings - on September 23 to benefit the women & children of King's Home Shelby.  Guests were served passed hors d'oeuvres, an elaborate charcuterie, complimentary beverages, and could also partake of a bourbon tasting and cigars.  Desserts were lovingly prepared and displayed by the Board of King's Home Shelby Auxiliary.   Emma Terry, Miss Alabama 2025, graciously modeled the "Baubles" - a set of pave diamond earrings donated for the raffle by Diamonds DIrect.  Other raffle items included a bourbon package, a golf & lodging package donated by Pursell Farms,  a hydrofacial package from Gunn Dermatology, and UAB Blazer football tickets donated by Buffalo Rock.  Director of Prodigal Pottery, Jenna Collins, brought a selection of pottery items for guests to browse and purchase.   The highlight of the evening was the live auction conducted by Lew Burdette, President of King's Home, of an original acrylic painting, "Legacy Landscape," created by local artist and long-time KHSA supporter Tina Douglass.  Tina added the final details to the painting during the event and it was spectacular!

August 26, 2025 Membership Luncheon

Picture
It was a lovely day for a garden party at the Greystone home of former KHSA President Ranea Breen for the "Goodbye to Summer" luncheon on August 26.  Members and guests were treated to a tour of the stunning garden by our hostess.  A brief meeting led by President Bobbie Breen highlighted all the various projects underway, including the refurbishing of "Hannah's Closet" at the Home to provide a boutique atmosphere where the residents can "shop" for clothing and shoes for themselves and their children.  Tracy is working to develop an Amazon Wishlist for needed items at the Home so that we can provide a link to members and on our website.  An exciting announcement was made that KHSA was one of the recipients of grant monies from the Greystone Foundation this year, and the Board is investigating steering funds towards an upgraded playground at the Home.  Tickets were available for purchase for our upcoming fundraiser Baubles, Bourbon, and Blessings on September 23 at Greystone Legacy.  Attendees shopped from a selection of items from King's Home Collections and Prodigal Pottery, and  door prizes were awarded.  An array of delicious salads prepared by KHSA Board Members were served as guests mingled and ate at tables throughout the garden.  A truly spectacular way to end the summer!

Tablescapes for King's Home 2025

Williams Chapel, Asbury United Methodist Church, Thursday, April 10, 2025
Picture
Williams Chapel at Asbury United Methodist Church was once again transformed into a magical journey by 23 amazing Table Designers for this year's sold-out Tablescapes 2025 fundraiser for King's Home Shelby Auxiliary benefeting the women and children at King's Home Shelby.   The tables took attendees on a journey from Broadway to the hills of Tuscany, through a Secret Garden and an Enhanted Forest, to the beaches of Alabama, on a visit with the flamingos of Palm Beach, a hop through the garden with Peter Rabbit - and so many more wondrous places!
Guests mingled with beverages viewing the elaborate tables and browsing the incredible Silent Auction before placing their final bids and table votes, and then taking their seats.  Entertainment was provided by Asbury musicians Nancy Beard on piano and vocalist Sara James.  Keeping with tradition, the crowd stood at their tables, held hands, and were led by Ranea Breen in the singing of "Amazing Grace" before the luncheon commenced.  After a moving invocation by Pastor Maggie Dunaway of Asbury, a salad trio was served and the program began.  A special award was presented to Auxiliary member Laverne Reese for her long-time support an efforts toward the success of Tablescapes.  President of the Auxiliary, Bobbie Breeding, introduced the first speaker, Lew Burdette, President of King's Home, who gave an update and thanked the Auxiliary for its historical efforts in providing support to King's Home Shelby.  The keynote speaker was Stephanie Smith of the Alabama Policy Institute.
The top 3 Table Designers who raised the most donations for King's Home via the table votes were awarded a lovely hand-painted acrylic floral art bitty block by Lauren Dunn.  Those Designers were:
  1. Sharon Suellentrop for Under the Tuscan Sun
  2. Susie Gaston, Susie Latham for A Secret Garden Soiree
  3. Laverne Reese for Tale of Peter Rabbit
Tablescapes 2025 was an overwhelming success, boasting some of the most creative table designs ever, and resulting in a $60,000 donation to King's Home Shelby!

The President of the Greystone Foundation, Susan Peeples, was in attendance and informed the group that King’s Home Shelby will be a recipient of the Foundation’s fundraising proceeds for 2025, and she encouraged everyone to support the Foundation’s Golf Tournament and Groove on the Green events to maximize the potential monies raised.
