founders and history

King's Home Shelby Auxiliary is a 501(c)3 which started as a result of ladies praying over a vision to serve children and women running from domestic violence and homelessness. A group met in a local Shelby County home and the result is a 13,000 square foot facility composed of ten family suites and two single women’s dorms, as well as a library/learning center, two dens, dining room, commercial kitchen, child development center, prayer room, counseling room, laundry room, playground, and administrative offices.  King's Home Shelby is a ministry of King’s Home.

In January of 2007 the home opened its doors with Rita Wood serving as the founding president that year.  The first charter member was First Lady Patsy Riley who has been an advocate for women and children in many facets of her life.

We are a group of diverse women who share the purpose of serving Christ by assisting women and children in need. Many of those we serve are homeless or fleeing from domestic violence. We are a ministry of King's Home.
